Why a Folder of JPEGs Isn't the Same as a CAD-Ready Deliverable

If you've shopped around for drone roof inspections, you've likely come across national broker platforms — the kind that dispatch a nearby hobbyist pilot on short notice at a low flat rate. They're fast and cheap. They're also frequently not the same product as an engineering-grade survey, even when the marketing sounds similar.
What a Gig Platform Typically Delivers
Most of these services hire pilots by the job, not by specialization. What comes back is usually a batch of unorganized raw photos dropped into a generic online dashboard — no vector CAD lines, no georeferenced mapping, no engineering summary tying the images to specific defect locations or severity.
That's fine if all you need is a visual record. It's a problem if you need something a roofing contractor can bid from, or something an insurance adjuster or reserve-study firm will accept as documentation.
What a Turnkey Engineering Deliverable Includes
A proper deliverable includes GeoTIFF orthomosaic maps referenced to real-world coordinates, DXF/DWG vector overlays a contractor can drop straight into a bid or CAD drawing, and a GPS-tagged defect matrix ranking each issue by severity — Critical, Maintenance Required, Monitored — instead of a folder of photos with no organizing structure.
The difference shows up the moment you try to act on the data. A photo folder tells a contractor 'there might be a problem up there somewhere.' A vector-mapped defect matrix tells them exactly where, how large, and how urgent — which is what actually shortens the time between finding a problem and fixing it.
