Credential
FAA Part 107 Certified
Every pilot flying for The Maryland Drone Company holds an active FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate — the federal license required to fly a drone for any commercial purpose in United States airspace.
Why this matters to you
Flying a drone over your facility without Part 107 certification is a federal violation — and it puts you, the property owner, at risk too. An uncertified operator flying over your roof, your parking lot, or your loading dock has no legal standing to be there commercially, which can complicate insurance claims, void liability coverage, and expose your business to FAA enforcement action by association.
What Part 107 Actually Requires
- Pass the FAA's Part 107 Aeronautical Knowledge Test covering airspace classification, weather, aircraft loading, and emergency procedures
- Complete recurrent training every 24 months to keep the certificate current
- Operate within strict altitude, visibility, and airspace rules, or hold specific FAA waivers for anything beyond standard limits
- Register every aircraft flown commercially with the FAA and maintain airworthiness records
Beyond the Minimum
Part 107 is the floor, not the ceiling. Our pilots also hold LAANC pre-clearance for controlled civil airspace near BWI and other regional airports, coordinate separately for military-restricted airspace near installations like Aberdeen Proving Ground, and carry $5M in aviation liability coverage — all things a certificate alone doesn't guarantee. When you book a flight with us, you're getting a fully compliant, insured, airspace-cleared operation, not just a licensed pilot.
